Job Rides, Inc. provides rides to work for Des Moines residents who need transportation. Job Rides' motto is "helping people get to work." Job Rides' fleet of vans and drivers operate three shifts, six days a week, transporting riders to specific employers. Major expenses include vans purchase and maintenance, driver wages, and 1,200 gallons of fuel per month. Riders pay a nominal fee that does not cover the the actual cost of the service, so the support of private, corporate, and foundation donors is critical to fulfilling our mission. Riders may be homeless, immigrants, refugees, or on work release. They are picked up at locations such as bus hubs, shelters, and apartment complexes. In 2022, after 10 months of operation, 150 riders are transported each week. Riders have earned more than $2 million in wages year-to-date, contributing to the economy and community while improving their lives. Job Rides is committed to helping riders maintain jobs through reliable, accessible transportation.
